The Benton County Jail is a medium-security detention center located in Vinton, Iowa and was built in 1993. This county jail is operated locally by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and holds inmates who are awaiting trial or sentencing.
The mission of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office is to “ensure fair and equal administration of the law, preserving public safety and doing so with professionalism and unity of purpose, while being good stewards of the public’s trust.”
Benton County Jail houses 35 inmates daily, and employs one captain, one lieutenant, seven sergeants, 28 detention officers, and one medical personnel.
Inmates in the Benton County Jail are offered a variety of programs, including substance abuse and religious programs. The goal of these inmates is to leave in better shape than they arrived and to be equipped to live a productive life in society.

Visitation
Inmates are allowed one 15-minute visit on their visitation day. Three visitors are allowed for each inmate at one tie. A valid ID is required from each visitor. Visitation is a first-come, first basis.
Visitation hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 9 PM and on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
All visits are non-contact and through a glass window. The inmate and visitor will speak through a phone. All visits are monitored by staff.
The Benton County Jail staff will turn anyone away who is not dressed appropriately for visitation.
The following clothing is inappropriate for visitation:
Any clothing that is too revealing
see-through material
Any undergarments that are showing
Shorts and skirts that are above the mid-thigh
Clothing promoting gang affiliation
Anything displaying drugs, weapons or profanity
Clothing depicting anything obscene
