Santa Fe, New Mexico is home to the Penitentiary of New Mexico. The Penitentiary of New Mexico is known as a medium-security detention center. The facility is home to over 791 male offenders.

The main purpose of the Penitentiary of New Mexico is to rehabilitate the offenders by changing their behavior patterns and allowing the offenders to learn new and improved skills that they will be able to take with them once they get released from the facility.

The Penitentiary of New Mexico consists of four housing buildings, a segregation unit, intake and orientation building, special management building, alongside an infirmary.

The offenders in the Penitentiary of New Mexico will be permitted to work in a large-scale bakery operation they have going on. Offenders can also choose to participate in the following programs:

  • Sex Offender Treatment

  • Anger Management Classes

All mail will be checked. It does not matter if it is a legal mail or just general mail. All mail will be checked by a correctional officer.

Sending Money

You will need to sign up and use JPay to send money to an inmate who is in the Penitentiary of New Mexico.

Phone calls

All phone calls are recorded and monitored. All phone calls will be 15-minutes. You will not be allowed for any reason to call an inmate or leave a message for an inmate. When on the phone with an inmate, you are not allowed to use any call features.

Visitation

You can visit a general population offender in the Penitentiary of New Mexico daily between the hours of 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. You must arrive prior to 2:30 pm to be permitted into the visitation room.

You will need to keep in mind that offenders in the Penitentiary of New Mexico are only allowed to have six visits every calendar month.

You can visit a diagnostic or segregation offender in the Penitentiary of New Mexico weekdays between the hours of 10 am to 2 pm. You must arrive prior to 12 pm to be permitted into the visitation room.
