About Texas Department of Criminal Justice

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) oversees offenders in state penitentiaries, state prisons, and private restorative offices that agreement with TDCJ. The Department of Criminal Justice appeared in 1848 when "A Demonstration to Build up a State Prison" was passed by the second Texas Council.
