Located in Bellingham, Washington, Whatcom County Juvenile Detention Facility is a medium-security detention center that is operated locally by the Whatcom|island|san Juan County Sheriff’s Office. The mission of Whatcom County Juvenile Detention Facility to “provide a safe and secure institution that conforms to Washington Revised Statutes for the incarceration of the pre-adjudicated and sentenced offenders as mandated by the courts.”

All incoming mail will be opened and inspected for contraband, monies and prohibited publications.
Pictures may not be larger than 4x6 inches. Polaroid pictures are not allowed. Pictures of this type will be placed in the inmate’s property and held until the inmate is released or will be returned to the sender.
Sending Money
You can send an inmate money to one of three ways: through the mail, in the Kiosk in the jail lobby, or online through Access Corrections.
Money sent to an inmate must be in the form of a cashier's check or money order. (No personal checks or cash).
Cash may, however, be deposited in the Kiosk 24 hours a day, located in the lobby of the jail, although there is a fee for this service, and ID is required.

Visitation
Visitation at Whatcom County Juvenile Detention Facility is a privilege, not a right. If you want to visit an inmate at this facility, please see the following guidelines:

Visitation time is on Saturdays and Sundays only.

Inmates are allowed three half-hour visits per weekend.

Visitors must sign up for visits in half-hour increments.

Visitors must sign up at least 20 minutes prior to the visiting session they wish to attend.

Inmates classified as maximum security can only visit during the last half hour of each time block.
At booking, each inmate receives a form to fill out the name of six people the inmate wishes to visit at the jail.
Inmates need to print each person’s name, address, and date of birth (if known) and submit the list to jail staff. The inmate may change the people on the visiting list only on the first of each month, using a request slip.
