About West Virginia Division of Corrections

While the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Restoration was made on July 1, 2018, it follows its inceptions about to the establishing of the state itself in 1863.

It was in 1866 that the Assembly approved the development of the West Virginia State Prison at Moundsville. Already, the new province of West Virginia had kept individuals sentenced for lawful offenses at the Ohio Area prison in Wheeling.

The making of the Division of Corrections and Recovery additionally denotes an arrival of sorts for the state's adolescent equity office – yet with a basic qualification.

Youth offenders were focused on the care of a similar official as grown-ups for most of the state's history. The Leading group of Control built up the West Virginia Modern Home for Young men at what is currently the Pruntytown Restorative Center. It worked there from 1891 until 1983, while its partner for young ladies opened at Salem in 1899. The later office turned into the coed Modern Home for Youth in 1983.

The Division of Corrections and Restoration perceives the significance of an adolescent organization from that of grown-up offenders, with its Agency of Adolescent Administrations separate from its Department of Penitentiaries and Prisons.
